Obituary

Mary L. Evans was born on May 12, 1946 to Winnie Alice Evans-Danielle, (deceased) in Raberta Georgia. She was the eldest of 11 children: Emmitt, James Jr, Gregory, Annette, Barbara, Jerome (deceased), Joe, Pricilla (Darry), Sandra, and Linda. Her grandparents, Walter and Mary Jane Evans (both deceased) raised her. Mary moved to Detroit, MI at the age of 16 and lived with her mother, step-father James Sr, and siblings. She graduated from Eastern High School in Detroit, Mi in January 1965.

Mary was a stay home mom for many years and she raised her children Derick (deceased), Myra, and Lamonte. She eventually decided to go to work as a Home Health Aid. During the years of her career she cared for the elderly and other individuals who needed living support as they aged. This was not just a job for her but a profession that she was very happy to do for many years. She was very proud of her accomplishments. She received numerous certificates, awards, and appreciation for her excellent job performance. Her children were proud to see their mom servicing the community and giving back to others.

At a young age Mary came to know the Lord and also was very instrumental in introducing her children to God. As an adult she enjoyed the midweek classes and church services that were held in her building and she would share the lessons learned with her daughter.

Mary had many hobbies that included the love of TV shows and programs, going to the movies, listening to music, cooking, reading the dictionary, and being neat and clean. She was not one that would talk a lot but she enjoyed listening to everyone else talk and enjoy themselves. She especially loved being around family on holidays and family gatherings. She liked living in her building with all the other seniors and she most enjoyed participating in the building activities where she would win gifts and surprises.

Mary loved her family and made so many sacrifices to make sure they all had what they needed. All who knew Mary loved her and said she was a very kind and lovable person. Her legacy is strong and her impact will live on through her family and the lives she touched during her life.

She leaves to cherish her memory the following people: Daughter-Myra, Son-Lamonte, Granddaughter Monica, Grandsons-Devin and Terrell, Great-Grandsons-Julian and Ryley, Great-Granddaughter Madilyn, five sisters, four brothers, nieces, nephews, close cousin Evelyn, a dear longtime sister-friend Betty, and a host of Great-nieces, Great-nephews, family, and friends. Mary will be dearly missed by all who loved her and knew her.
