Obituary

 

Shirleen (Shirley) Newman age 85, passed away on 06/27/2021 at St. John Ascension Hospital in Detroit, MI. 

 

Shirleen, better known as Shirley,  was born February 22, 1936 in Phenix City, Al. Shirley  was the daughter of Roosevelt and Mandy (Avery) Robinson of Phenix City, Al.  Shirley was married to the late Carlton H. Newman of Woodlawn, VA in 1953.  Her parents, husband, son Milton Newman, sisters Mary Lois Mccoy, Ozella McGraw, Mattie Pearl Campbell and Kathreen Williams, brothers Jessie Neal Robinson and Arthur Robinson, Jr. and granddaughter Shonte Alkea Newman all preceded her in death.

 

Shirley gave her life to Christ at an early age at St. Paul United Holiness church in Woodlawn, VA where she sang in the choir.  Shirley loved to pray dance, sing and enjoyed life. Flea Marketing was Shirley’s favorite hobby and past time.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, three sons Carlton Newman Jr (Andrea), Garrett Newman (Josephine) and Charles Newman (Phyllis); two daughters Debra Ann Newman Russell and Gloria Johnson; one sister Mary Pearl Little; 15 grandchildren, 34

great-grandchildren and 5 great- great grandchildren and a host of family,  friends and loved ones.
